A documentary called My Tattoo Addiction explores the world of tattoos and how people can get addicted to them, always wanting to get another tattoo when they thought that the previous one was the last one. The documentary also explores tattoo mistakes and how people are dealing with tattoo removal.
The show is still available on Channel 4 On Demand. It is a great insight on why and how people get tattoos, what they love about their tattoos and sometimes, why they have regrets and what they can do about it. Tattoo removal is always one option for those who have regrets, have split up with a partner or have changed their lifestyles. Cover up is another option and the show takes us through two cover up, one having to cover a very large logo on a young man’s chest and the other less challenging, covering up a name on a lady’s arm. The man with the large logo on his chest had it covered with a very large eagle, the wings giving plenty of cover for the original design. The cover up was very successful. It proves that there are solutions to remove unwanted tattoos no matter how large they are. The lady wanted to remove the name of her ex-partner and had it covered with a flower. It was also very effective and the lady was delighted to be able to remove the name for good and move on with her life without this painful reminder. Cover up tattoo and a great solution to remove unwanted tattoos but the new design has to be a compromise between what you really want as a new tattoo and what can be done to cover the previous tattoo. A good tattoo artist will always be able to give you advice on what can be achieved and how many sessions will be required.
The film also explores how young British people on holiday in Ayia Napa are getting silly tattoos as a souvenir or getting tattoos while drunk. One lad even had his mate’s name tattooed on his bum as a drunken dare. These young people getting their first tattoos in Ayia Napa during their holidays join the 20 million people in Britain who already have tattoos. Any part of the body can be tattooed: arm, leg, chest, back but neck, wrist, back of the ear, hand, feet and even face tattoos are increasingly more popular.
Another good reason to watch the show if you can is to meet the man obsessed with Miley Cyrus. He has over 15 tattoos of dedicated to her, including her face, lyrics from her song and her name and various parts of his body: arms, back, fingers, or chest.
Tattooists already spend about 40% of their working time fixing tattoos or covering up. It looks like they will be busy for years to come. And the number of people requesting laser tattoo removal will also be on the rise. The UK is the most tattooed nation in Europe.
